What to wear on a first date
Yourself on a good day. Comfortable enough to forget what you have on.
The bar is not "impressive", the bar is that you look like yourself on a good day and that you can sit in it for two hours. Fiddling with a tight collar reads as nerves even when you have none.
Dress for the place, not for the date. Coffee in the afternoon is a different thing from a wine bar. If you do not know where you are going, just ask; that is an attentive question, not an unromantic one.
What people do notice: your shoes, your hands, and whether your clothes are clean. Not the brand, not the price.

- Daytime or coffee: a good t-shirt or fine knit with tailored trousers or dark jeans. Dinner or drinks: a shirt or a knit with a collar, and leather shoes.
- Texture
- If you want it to look considered without adding colour, use fabric: wool next to cotton, suede next to denim.
- Comfort
- Sit down at home and stand up again. If you have to straighten something, wear something else.
- The way back
- Bring a coat that belongs to the outfit. Evenings cool down and that should not be an emergency.
