What to wear to a job interview

One rule holds in every industry: dress one step smarter than the people who already work there. One step, not three. Walking into a company where everyone wears hoodies in a three-piece suit lands just as badly as trainers at a law firm.
Five minutes on the company’s team page or socials gives you that baseline. You are not looking for fashion, you are looking for the level: shirts or not, trainers on the leadership team, anyone wearing a tie.
After that, fit beats price by a distance. A twenty-five euro shirt that sits on your shoulders looks better than an expensive one that does not.
The rules, short
- The ladder
- T-shirts in the room? You wear a shirt or a fine knit. Shirts? Add a jacket. Already jackets? Make sure yours is pressed and your shoes are leather.
- Colour
- Two neutrals and at most one accent. Navy, grey, white and beige always work.
- Fit
- Shoulder seam on your shoulder, sleeve to your wrist bone, trousers with one soft break on the shoe.
- The night before
- Press it, polish the shoes, empty the pockets. And wear the whole outfit once beforehand so you know nothing itches.
